study is helpful for the physician in diagnosing diseases affecting
the nerves in the upper and lower extremities. These may
indicate whether there is external pressure upon a nerve, such
as in the case of a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or carpal
tunnel syndrome. The study may also indicate whether there
is intrinsic metabolic disease affecting the nerve, as in the
case of diabetes. Emg/ncv studies add another piece of
information to assist your doctor in arriving at a diagnosis.
