ophthalmic artery

This is a small artery which comes off the internal carotid artery just as it leaves the cavernous sinus, and goes to the eye.  Aneurysms in this area may require the surgeon to drill off part of the clinoid (piece of skull base), and the surgeon may need to expose the carotid artery in the neck for control of the artery.
