neurogenic claudication

The sensation of pain in the lower extremities, precipitated by walking.  When the pain is due to nerve compression such as spinal stenosis (neurogenic claudication), it is present while standing as well as walking (rest pain).  When it is due to narrowing of the arteries supplying the lower extremity (vascular claudication), it is improved by sitting.
