intraventricular catheter

A catheter which is inserted through a small hole in the skull, and passed into the ventricle.  This may be used to drain cerebrospinal fluid, and measure intracranial pressure.  It may be connected to an external drain, or attached to a catheter which is tunneled to the abdomen (as in a ventriculoperitoneal shunt).
