hemangioma, cavernous
Also known as cavernous malformation, cavernous angioma and cavernoma.  These lesions contain thin walled vascular channels, without neural tissue, large arteries or large veins.  There may be multiple lesions present.  They may present with seizures, neurological deficits, or hemorrhage (usually focal).  These lesions are best seen on MRI scan, and often have a characteristic area of low signal, due to previous leaking of blood and deposition of hemosiderin.  Risks of hemorrhage are much less than that of arteriovenous malformations.
