halo-vest brace
An orthotic device which allows excellent immobilization of the cervical spine.  A ring is generally attached to the skull using four pins which insert into the outer table of the cortex, and then a vest is placed over the chest.  The head frame is secured to the vest by means of posts.  Today, modern halo vest braces are made out of graphite fiber head frames and posts, and are very light in weight.
