greenfield filter
Shortly after a surgery, especially on the brain, anticoagulation is contraindicated.  If a patient has deep venous thrombosis (clots in the legs), he/she is at risk of a pulmonary embolism.  A Greenfield filter is a filter which is placed in the vena cava to block clots from reaching the lungs.
