extracranial-intracranial (ec/ic) bypass
The revascularization of the vasculature within the brain by sewing an artery in the scalp to an artery in the brain.  In the past, this was performed commonly for stroke prevention, but an international study showed no additional benefit from this, although this issue is being reexplored with the use of PET scanning.  It is still used in the treatment of moyamoya disease and for the treatment of giant aneurysms within the brain.
