| Tumor
which arises from the cells which line the ventricles of the brain,
and the central canal of the spinal cord. They may spread throughout
the cerebrospinal fluid. When located in the brain, they are
usually in the fourth ventricle, and may invade the brainstem.
In the spine, they may occur in the spinal cord or in the filum terminale
(a fibrous band at the lowest aspect of the cord). The five
year survival rate of ependymomas within the brain is on the order
of 40%. |
