test involves the injection of a water soluble contrast agent directly
into the disc space. A CT scan is then performed to look at
the structure of the disk and annulus. The patient is asked
how much low back pain is produced during the test. This is
an attempt to determine whether the disc is causing the low back pain,
and is often used to guide the surgeon as to which patient should
be fused in the treatment of low back pain. |
