carotid cavernous fistula (ccf)
Carotid cavernous fistula is a shunting of blood from the carotid artery to the cavernous sinus (a large vein, whose walls are composed of leavess of dura, through which it runs).  This may occur due to trauma, or may occur spontaneously if an aneurysm of the carotid artery within the cavernous sinus ruptures.  This may present with pain in the eye, pulsatile protrusion of the orbit,  and double vision.
